Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best age range for the MAD6?

All kids are different but we recommend an inner seam measurement between 15 and 25 inches (38 -64 cm). Or about 4 ½ up to about 9 if they are a smaller kid.

Does price include delivery?

The price includes courier delivery to most regions of the world. We can let you know this on ordering.

What is the delivery time for a MAD6?

The build time for a new MAD6 is generally 2 weeks depending on the build schedule and orders in the system. Delivery usually takes about 7-15 days depending on your location.

Can the components be upgraded?

Sure, as each bike is custom set built, we are happy to upgrade components to a custom request. We have built Shimano XTR equipped bikes in the past. Prefer SRAM – no problems. More bling - no problems.

I expect to pass the bike down to younger siblings, can I get a second name plate?

Yes, we will supply up to 3 engraved name plates and change instructions with each bike. The bike also come with a blank for resale. We can supply new name plate at any stage.

How tough is the MAD6?

We build the bike with kids in mind so components are chosen on suitability for kids treatment as well as technical/weight considerations. The standard Shimano XT brakes are a perfect example of this.

Why does the bike not have a through axle setup?

Through axel were introduced to increase the stiffness of bikes but they are heavier. We use titanium 9-10mm QR system which are lighter, with a carbon frame and an average rider weight around 50lb  (23kg) stiffness is not an issue.

Why not use air sprung forks?

Through years of testing we have found no air sprung fork works well with light riders. The air seals and sliding components are the same as adult rated forks. We have always found that when an adult compresses them, they appear fine (the standard plunge test). In riding our analysis shows during light impacts and rough terrain, the forks never move. Sure they will take the big hits but just rattle the rider in everything else. We produce custom coil forks with minimal internal friction (no internal seals). We supply rated springs for the rider weight and upgrades.

What options are available for crank length?

We have worked on crank length for over 10 years. We also realized that kids body geometry is different from adults. We have settled on 135mm cranks. Any shorter and the riders get no power from the cycle any longer and they bounce up and down. The custom crank-set and bottom bracket on The MAD6 weigh a combined weight of 8.7oz (246g). (Note – a Shimano XTR equivalent is 500g)

Does the bike have “Street Cred”!

The MAD6 amongst cyclists, is equivalent to a puppy at a kinder class. They won’t notice your new $15K YETI if you park it with a MAD6. Expect the Are they really carbon wheels?!”

Can my child ride a MAD6 GB in the TDF?

Unfortunately no,  the MAD6 GB is lighter than UCI minimum regulation limit for racing.
